Tips for using the site. Keyword lists.
Searching for "Search"? Click here. On a desktop, there's a search widget on the header bar too.
Poor video playback? SmugMug "native" videos -- the ones in-line in the galleries -- can start out at low resolution and suddenly become more clear after a few seconds. The Vimeo versions at the end of some galleries (or in a separate folder in one case) generally play well. These are embedded from my Vimeo site and use their player.
Broken link? In early 2017 I did a site reorganization. Some links from other websites, old emails, etc., may be broken. Go to the Browse All page: you can probably work your way to what you want. Otherwise, hit the Contact Me button on the menu.
What's with the "(#)" or concluding "_"in some captions? These are flag to the browser, telling it which setting to use to scale the image to fill the screen in the lightbox view. I normally use a setting that retains sharp edges when scaling. That yields a clean, sharp image most of the time, but occaisionally it introduces distortions. Either of the two special symbols tells the browser to use a "safer", if less crisp, approach when scaling this picture.
Plant Genera Keywords (linked to the appropriate family)
The Plant Families Folder collects botanical pictures from the various hiking and touring galleries. They are organized by family, the next major taxonomic division above genus. The list below gives the genera represented, with links to the appropriate family. So, for example, Abies links to the family gallery for Pinaceae. Abies are the fir trees. Pinaceae is the pine family, including (in California) fir, spruce, pine, hemlock, and Douglas fir.
