Monday and Tuesday, June 22 and 23, 2015. Civilized Places and Events. A 30 hour "day" in transit: San Francisco to Amsterdam to Budapest. Today was the day for meeting the key players in this 11-day excursion.
Monday, June 22. Hugh Davies, our tour director from acfea met us at the San Francisco Airport's International Terminal.
We departed a little over an hour late.
We flew KLM ... on this rather old Boeing 747. The seats were mighty narrow in coach.
Waiting at the gate.
Tuesday, June 23. Sometime during that 9 hour flight (with an additional 9 hour time change), Monday turned into Tuesday. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a fine place to connect. Are where else do you have a chocolate vendor with a display like this?
A little after 4PM Central European Time -- 7AM in California -- we arrived in Budapest. We were greeted by our acfea courier Eva Gordon-Smith, here talking to Oakland Symphony executive director Steve Payne.
Tiffany Bayly, Oakland Symphony Operations Manager, checking that everybody (and their luggage) was accounted for.
Our hotel was the Lion's Garden, in Pest just southeast of the City Park. (This picture taken after our arrival.)
We all assembled for a dinner at our hotel, the Lion's Garden, in Budapest.
Eva, Tiffany, and OSC music director Lynne Morrow at the head table.
Steve welcomed everybody and gave a little introduction to the next few days.
