Singing Prague
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Civilized Places and Events. The Chorus had a very big day. They started at the US Ambassador's Residence for the US Independence Day festivities. They sang the Star Spangled Banner and mixed with the Embassy staff and Czech guests. Attendance was limited to singers, so I wasn't there: no pictures. Family members, were free to tour. Most of that is recorded in the Touring Prague gallery, but I did check out the Church of the Holy Savior (Kostel u Salvátora) where the group will rehearse this afternoon and perform tonight. The story then resumes at afternoon rehearsal at the church and concludes with the evening concert. Previous gallery. Next gallery.
Read MoreEvangelical Czech Brethren Temple of the Savior, built 1611-14. The Evangelical Church Czech Brethren was created in 1918 by a union of the Czech Lutheran and Reformed (Calvinist) confessions. The name is nod to the Czech Reformation: the Unity of Brethren were the first to translate the Bible into Czech.
The end of the Benedictus (with the Hosanna) from the Requiem. Ahead in this gallery is a clip of the same music from the concert. I'm clearly not standing in an optimal spot for sound recording, but, in general, this church was less clean-sounding than others on this trip. (1:25 video -- click to play.)
