Taxus brevifolia (Pacific yew). I missed the main route heading to the Upper Canyon Lake and at one point found myself in a gnarly thicket. But before I retreated, I spotted this. Soft, but pointed, needles could only be a yew. I wish I had had a better view of the parent tree.
