Clarkia unguiculata (elegant Clarkia) seed pods. One of the pleasures on a CNPS hike is that the leader can point out things like this.

Pseudognaphalium sp. (cudweed) as identified by Gregg. I think he identified this as P. ramosissimum (pink cudweed, pink everlasting) but I'm not sure, and without leaves, it could just as well be P. beneolens. (The leaves are PO.)

Solidago velutina ssp. californica (California goldenrod). We only saw this in one place, but there was a whole hillside.

Holocarpha heermannii (Heermann's tarweed). Greg noted that here this is the yellow tarweed one will see. On Mt. Diablo, if the stamens are yellow, it's this too.

Lupinus formosus (summer lupine) with a visitor.

Convolvulus arvensis (field bindweed). Gregg noted Calystegia purpurata was possible too, but the former seems to fit better because of the leaves and the disturbed habitat it was in. Non-native.

Madia elegans (common madia). Mostly closed up for the day.

Spergularia rubra (red sandspurry). Gregg suggested Polygonum aviculare but the latter doesn't fit (color, flowers shape and buds, number of stamens). Non-native.

Gregg and several others made an excursion down a steep slope to get to a look at Stephanomeria virgata (wand wire lettuce). I passed since I'm familiar with it from Mt. Diablo.

Clarkia rubicunda (ruby chalice clarkia) seems most reasonable given it's so late in the season. But I'm seeing separated sepals. So ??
