7/4/21 - Carquinez Regional Shoreline
As I climbed out of the Nejedly Staging Area on the Rankin Park Trail, I had this view back to the Benecia Bridge. Lots of mixed oak woodland / open grassland up here.
A view to the next ridge to the west from the Franklin Trail.
And on that hillside: coyotes. Just listen. I never saw a thing.
And now on to the restored Carquinez Scenic Drive, which other signs identify as the George Miller Trail. This old sign predates the November 2014 opening. I was on it within a week ... and haven't been back since. (I've taken the liberty of using the Lightroom tools to remove a few pieces of graffiti.)

Some sailboats. Benecia Pier behind. Before 1930, the Central Pacific railroad ferries departed here.

And below, the train tracks. As with the coyotes, I couldn't see anything, but I could hear a lot. Click and listen. (This mixes a recording from lunch with one taken later.)
A little farther on, I finally got a view of the tracks.
One of my maps call this the Nevada Dock. It looks like it's still functional.
I turned around at the gate at the far end of the George Miller Trail. The Carquinez Scenic Drive is a real road west of here. The gate had this. It's July: new newts today.
Also near that end, a labyrinth.
Finally, a train at a time when I could see the tracks. This is a Caltrans Capitol Corridor run.
