6/10/20 - Mt. Diablo Grand Loop (w/the Mary Bowerman Trail)
June 10, 2020. SF Bay Area. Bay Area 2020. Week 13 of the slowly re-opening (for now) Covid-19 world. Mt. Diablo road access has been restored, just in time for a last flourish of spring flowers. And what a flourish! Swaths of red ribbons, woolly sunflower, and penstemons. Four species I hadn't seen before. Three CNPS 1B's (different from the four). In at Juniper, up the Juniper Trail to the lower summit parking lot, around the Mary Bowerman Trail, lunch, down to Devil's Elbow, North Peak Trail to Prospector's Gap, Bald Ridge trail to Merchio Gap, then back to Juniper on the Meridian Ridge and Deer Flat fire roads. A bit of this hike includes the Morgan Fire zone, but that was not really the focus today.

And with the park reopening, I got to see the end today! CNPS 1B, but common on the mountain -- I saw them in many places today -- just almost nowhere else.
