11/8/20 - Mt. Tam: Deer Park to Phoenix Lake
November 8, 2020. SF Bay Area. Bay Area 2020. More of Marin, this time on the lower north flanks of Mt. Tamalpias. Mostly just a nice walk in the woods, with somewhat better leaf color than I've seen so far this autumn. A bit of iffy weather in the middle of a mostly sunny day livened things up. In at Deer Park, then a long noodle on a bunch of trails and fire roads: an unnamed use trail to Boy Scout Junction, the Bald Hill trail to Six Points, the Hidden Meadow Trail and Shaver Grade Road to Phoenix Lake. I went a ways down the north shore of the the lake then turned around. The return: the Fish Gulch, Concrete Pipe, Madrone, Pumpkin, and (briefly) Elliot Trails, followed by another section of the Shaver Grade Road and the Deer Park Fire Trail.
Read MoreWhile I was on the Pumpkin Trail, it started to rain lightly. And by the time I was to the top of Shaver Grade, some hail! These are larger than BB's but smaller than peas. It was all over in 20 minutes, and it wasn't much: places under the densest trees remained dry. None-the-less, it's a start on the 2020-21 rainy season.
