The black oaks too are showing a bit more yellow compared to the those in the East Bay, too, but it's still a short path from green to yellow to brown.

Arbutus menziesii (madrone) fruits ripening. There were quite unripe yellow ones about too. Madrone Trail (of course), but I saw madrones, with and without berries elsewhere today.

A look at what might (and might not) be the same grass/sedge I saw between Rifle Camp and Azalea Meadow last June. This one's a bit scraggly, but I saw more tidy ones, better matching what I saw in June. This is definitely a sedge.

Those seed heads also say this is a sedge, not a grass. Carex globosa is one possiblity but other Carex sp. are quite possible. The habitat and general form fit C. globosa, but with this little left of the seed pods, any call is premature.

From the Pumpkin Trail, I got a view of Bon Tempe Reservoir. Its getting windy and hazy.

While I was on the Pumpkin Trail, it started to rain lightly. And by the time I was to the top of Shaver Grade, some hail! These are larger than BB's but smaller than peas. It was all over in 20 minutes, and it wasn't much: places under the densest trees remained dry. None-the-less, it's a start on the 2020-21 rainy season.
