6 January 2018 - Choisya ternica (Mexican orange).

17 January 2018 - Camellia sasanqua 'Kanjiro'. As these were finishing in front, I brought some in. (I began a very hard pruning on the plants shortly after doing so.) As this stage they give a better show inside than out ... briefly. The flowers have with about a one-day vase life.

22 January 2018 - Bergenia cordifolia. A little floppy after this morning's rains.

2 February 2018 - Bergenia and Iris. The Iris, here when we moved in, may be 'Crimson King'. It was introduced 1893 and described by one author as "ubiquitous in coastal California."

15 February 2018 - Collinsia (Chinese houses) and Heuchera 'Canyon Belle' (coral bells). Wonderfully long vase life on these. Flower buds just keep opening.

18 March 2018 - Salvia spathacea (hummingbird sage, native) and Hyacinthoides hispanica (Spanish bluebells, not).

4 April 2018. Heuchera maxima, Heuchera 'Canyon Belle', Collinsia.

16 April 2018. Rose de Rescht with a few late bluebells.

21 April 2018. Ixia. These were in the parking strip in front. They weren't showy there, but they were fine in the vase.

12 May 2018. Tall Bearded Iris 'Spiced Custard'.

16 May 2018. Eschscholzia californica 'Apricot Chiffon'.

2 June 2018. Cineraria. Another one that's better in the vase than in the garden. These were here before we moved in and have just keep seeding in. (And I only selectively thin the seedlings.) Cineraria are hybrids primarily involving Pericallis cruenta and P. lanata from the Canary Islands. Formerly in the genus Senecio.

5 June 2018. Aquilegia chrysantha.

8 June 2018. Geum 'Starker's Magnificum', Aquilegia chrysantha, Juncus effusus, Heuchera 'Canyon Belle', Struthiopteris spicant.

8 June 2018. Geum, Aquilegia, Juncus, Heuchera, and Struthiopteris: same as before. But what a difference (back-) lighting, backdrop, and a rotation of the vase can make. Some ways better, some worse.

16 June 2018. Philadelphus lewisii (western mock orange).

1 Aug 2018. Roses 'Felicia' and 'Lady Emma Hamiton', with Echinacea ‘Cheyenne Spirit’ poking out he side. Maybe not a great composition (or background), but here are the two new roses. The new plants didn't pump out many blooms this year.

23 Aug 2018. Amaryllis belladona.

15 September. Rose de Rescht. These keep blooming, but after he big spring flush, flowers tend to be scattered about. But you can collect a showy display for the vase.

17 November. Cosmos, Geum, Rose of Rescht.

23 November, 2018. Achillia, Saliva, Bergenia.

December 7. Rose 'Lady Emma Hamilton'. Mightly late to pop one of these ... but here we are.

December 29. Iris unguicularis, Bergenia, Choisya.
