Hell For Sure - July 2018
July 23 - 28, 2018. Sierra South. "The LeConte Divide" would be a more inclusive title, but "Hell For Sure" has a certain cachet ... and it does call out two destinations of the trip: Hell For Sure Lake and Hell For Sure Pass. A campground night at Courtright Reservoir, in at the Maxson Trailhead, then backcountry nights at Post Corral Meadow, Disappointment Lake (2), and Lower Indian Lake. From Disappointment Lake I dayhiked to the Hell For Sure area and to the Devils Punchbowl. From Lower Indian Lake, I dayhiked to Upper Indian Lake and Mosquito Pass. Then a long return to Maxson on the last day.
Read MoreMonday, July 23. Driving up. I had lunch at the Dorabelle Picnic Area on Shaver Lake. There's a fair amount of smoke haze in the air from the Ferguson Fire near Yosemite. Not that that's stopping any of the action on the lake. The good news is that I will be driving south from here, away from the smoke.
I stopped here along the way. Something over 200 big trees. It is the southernmost of the eight "northern" groves, the ones not in the main cluster of big trees in the drainages of S. Fork of the Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and Kern Rivers. (The eight: Placer Co., N and S Calavaras, 3 in Yosemite, Nelder, and this.) _
