Roberts and Redwood Reg Parks - March 5 2017
2017. SF Bay Area. Bay Area 2017. A short afternoon walk after a rainy morning. Roberts and Redwood are only about 15 minutes away from home. I started at the Serpentine Prairie (no pictures), but, finding a connecting trail closed, drove the short distance over to Roberts. I walked around Roberts, then to Redwood Bowl, then south a ways on the West Ridge and Baccharis Trails.

Roberts Recreation Area is tucked in your basic second-growth redwood grove.
But under those trees, near one of the picnic areas, is this plaque, plus and a few other signs. By judging the sight-lines, this is a historic spot. The dangerous top of Blossom Rock -- only a fathom down at low tide -- was removed in 1870.
Beyond that, I just had a pleasant, nondescript walk. The fungus of the the day, Stereum hirsutum (false turkey tail). Perhaps.
Toxicoscordion fremontii (star zygadene). The flower of the day. Not much else was out. Forests of redwoods, oaks, and bays are not big flower producers.
